There are only a few moments in life when I feel, from the depths of my heart, that life is truly worth living. Broadly speaking, they fall into two categories.
The first is the time I spend immersed in cooking and eating. This is a feeling that I am fortunate to experience almost every day.
The second is the time in which I come to recognize anew that the surroundings are beautiful. I most often experience this feeling through works such as films, novels, and photography etc.
Yet my experiences of certain architectural works have remained vividly in my memory, which here become important clues in understanding this very sensation.
I believe this emerged through spatial experience, a sense of empathy and inter-corporeality, allowing me to perceive the environment through the sensibility of the designer. During my years as a student, I came to understand that such experiences are the result of resonances between just a few lines, or by dimensional adjustments measured in mere millimeters.
At the same time, I developed a deep sense of appreciation, and fascination with such work.
With these vast and somewhat elusive thoughts in mind, I have spent much of my time in Kyoto. Where I have, I have been deeply influenced by the flow of time embodied by the Kamo River, and by the city’s enduring yet ever-evolving cultural activities.
Through my work at TPOD, based in Kyoto, I look forward to encountering new cultures, ideas, and worlds. As an architectural designer, I will strive to return even a small part of these experiences to all those who share and inhabit the same environment.
